Question: I am tired of seeing David Clarke on Revenge. He annoys the hell out of me! Please tell me when he is gone from the show. —C.C
Ausiello: Conrad, is that you? I’m afraid I have some bad news. Not only will Emily’s dead pa continue to be a regular presence in flashbacks, but the upcoming episode set in 1991 will chronicle the early days of his relationship to Victoria. The big surprise? The Grayson matriarch wasn’t always such an ice queen. “Over time, she’s become a little bit more [hardened],” portrayer Madeleine Stowe tells TVLine. “Early on, you might see something that’s a little more playful, a little more fun.” The origin-heavy hour will also jump ahead to 2002 to show the “tough and rough” dynamic between fresh-out-of-juvie Emily and frenemy Nolan, previews Emily VanCamp, who adds, “We also have almost all of the take-down characters [return]. It’s really cool. It’s a great episode.”
Question: Please grace us with any scoop you have on Revenge. —Brandi
Ausiello: Fun fact: There’s a good reason Jack is holding on to that blood-soaked hoodie of his instead of lighting a match to it. “I might need it later,” hints Nick Wechsler in character. “If I need to get [Amanda] out of trouble, I might want it because I need to prove that I was there.” Meanwhile, don’t expect the bartender to swoop in and steal Emily while Daniel’s off doing time in the pokey. “He’s a good enough guy that he’s not wishing ill on [Daniel],” muses the actor. “He feels bad for him.” But, he adds, there “might be an [opportunity] now” in Daniel’s absence for a “a slightly lingering hug” between the childhood sweethearts
Revenge S1 PaleyFest 2012 – From TVLine.com
Revenge! Scoop on the All-Flashback Episode, Dark Daniel, the Em/Nolan ‘Ship (?!) and More
Emily Thorne’s Revenge-enda is heading back to the beginning in an upcoming, all-flashback episode that showrunner Mike Kelley hails as “one of [his] favorite things” about ABC’s primetime sudser thus far.
Also unveiled at the drama’s PaleyFest 2012 panel on Sunday: Spoilers on the Season 1 finale, what’s next for Emily and Daniel (whose journey takes a dark turn), and much more.
Being touted as an “origin story,” an upcoming installment of Revenge travels back to 2002, Kelley revealed, to the day that the photograph in Lydia’s house, with Emily standing in the background holding a tray of champagne, was taken.
“The way we’re treating it is that this is an episode of Revenge set in 2002,” explained the EP. “We’re not setting it up like a flashback [within a present day episode].” So, from the moment the illuminating hour begins, expect to see a dark-haired Emily, a far-less preppy Nolan and… a long-haired, Tom Cruise-esque Jack?
“You should see my hair in that episode,” Nick Wechsler deadpanned, alluding to a ‘do described by Kelley as similar to Cruise’s superstar in the upcoming movie Rock of Ages. (Here’s a little sample for you.)
The flashback episode is designed to give Emily “her first glimpse at these people who destroyed her family, when she’s still not quite believing her father and his journals,” added Emily VanCamp. “There’s a big event [that happens] at this New Year’s Eve party, and it really solidifies what her father’s been telling her… That’s sort of the beginning of her journey.”
Added bonus: Madeleine Stowe noted that the episode actually finds some cast members going much further back in time — to 1990!
Other takeaways from the Revenge Paley panel:
• The next new episode (to air sometime in April) finds Mason Treadwell (guest star Roger Bart) returning as part of Victoria’s scheme to save Daniel. And as if there was ever any doubt that Victoria would “go to the ends of the Earth” to protect her son, Stowe revealed, “In [the next episode] somebody sends guys to beat up Daniel [in the showers]…. Who could that possibly be?” Of course, Mommy Dearest is behind the attack, because, Stowe explained, “In Victoria’s mind the best way to get her son out of jail is to get the daylights beaten out of him. I actually think it’s utterly justified, but it’s going to cause a big problem between them.”
• Following Revenge‘s next new installment, Episode 17, the series will jump ahead in time to December, with Daniel’s murder trial wrapped up by Episode 19.
• Season 1 will “obviously” end on a cliffhanger, Kelley promised. And if the drama is lucky enough to receive a second season (which it no doubt will be), they’re going to stick with the formula that works. Basically, the show will “set up [a mystery] in the beginning, pay it off in the middle, fall it out, and then set up some new stuff,” he shared.
• The Jack/Emily/Daniel love triangle “kind of steers one way soon,” offered VanCamp. “We already know how much love Emily has for Jack — that’s a given — [but] in the next episode you see how far she’s willing to go for Daniel, as well.”
• Speaking of Daniel, Josh Bowman shared that his currently incarcerated character will soon “come to a crossroads in making a decision between good and evil.” Added Kelley, “He’ll at least [realize] that he’s been pulled and pushed and manipulated by both his mother and beautiful fiancée,” which results in a “new respect and understanding” between Daniel and his father.
• Emily/Nolan ‘shippers may want to regroup and reassess their cause because, according to Kelley, theirs was always “meant to be a sibling relationship. It’s got a nice, warm beating-heart to the series; otherwise it’s just a bunch of nastiness.” Gabriel Mann, however, is not in total agreement with that stance, joking, “I don’t like that — we’re not related!”
• Might Em’s Daddy Dearest actually be alive and kickin’ somewhere? “I’ve said it once before and I’ll say it again: If it’s not impossible, we’ll probably do it,” Kelley teased. “I love that character (played by Men in Trees‘ James Tupper)… but I can disappoint and titillate you all by saying you will not find out this season.” Regardless of what the future holds for David Clarke, Revenge does have plans to someday unveil what happened to Emily’s mother.
• “Vengeance is coming” in the Victoria/Conrad divorce storyline, Stowe warned.
• Kelley teased that cutthroat Hamptonite Ashley Davenport (played by Ashley Madekwe) will “have a definite shift in loyalty. We’re going out [this season] with Ashley doing something where she has to make a big decision about regarding [Emily].”
• “Declan turns into a bit of a tattletale” when it comes to his girlfriend Charlotte and her rapidly-developing pill addiction, Christa B. Allen shared.
Revenge Spoilers and Palyfest news
‘Revenge’ Spoilers: Flashback Episode, the Trial, and What’s Coming up for Daniel
Revenge was honored at PaleyFest Sunday afternoon, and like the other panels, the Livestream showed what executive producers Mike Kelley and Marty Bowen and cast members Nick Wechsler, Ashley Madekwe, Josh Bowman, Henry Czerny, Madeleine Stowe, Emily VanCamp, Gabriel Mann, Connor Paolo, and Christa B. Allen teased is coming up.
Daniel’s Fate
Kelley said “it was” the plan that Daniel was going to live all along and be the one to shoot Tyler. While there were moments you had to wonder how that beach scene would play out, the promo that aired showing Daniel falling to the sand and looking like the one who would die did almost completely cement the fact that it was very likely he would survive.
Spoilers About the Rest of Season 1
There is an “origins story” coming up that will take place completely in 2002 with a flashback to 1990. There won’t be a set-up in the beginning. This is going to be showing that New Year’s Eve party from the photo of Victoria and Lydia with Emily in the background. Since that photo showed up, it was hard not to wonder when a flashback would show the party, and it’s even better that an entire episode is going to be showing 2002. According to Emily VanCamp, this is going to be the first glimpse she gets at the people on her list—which “will expand,” according to Kelley (Treadwell’s tapes do contain more conspirators they can explore)—and she’ll get to see “how they kind of interact at that time.” There is going to be a big event at the New Year’s party which “solidifies what her father’s been telling her,” and VanCamp added that this will be “the beginning of it all.” Basically, this sounds like a must-see episode for fans and one that could hold many answers viewers have been hoping to get.
The panel also addressed Daniel’s trial, which is going to be “accelerated.” Episode 18 will take place in December, and the prosecution is going to wrap up their side in the beginning of it, moving over to the defense. The trial will be finished in episode 19. Will Takeda’s role in this all come out during the trial, or will it be too hard to prove that Daniel didn’t shoot Tyler twice in the back during his blackout?
Speaking of what happened on the beach, Josh Bowman says that Daniel “remembers quite a bit” about what happened, and he’s not going to let that go. Kelley did point out that “he’s no angel” and shot Tyler. “He is a Grayson,” and he’s going to “catch on” to the manipulation coming his way from both Victoria and Emily. Bowman did say that Daniel will “come to a crossroads” and he’ll have to decide “between good and evil.” Will he make that decision before the trial is over? He is going to have to “find someone new” to trust, and considering Madeleine Stowe has revealed, “Victoria will go to the ends of the earth for her son. In her mind, the best way to get her son out of jail is to have the daylights beat out of him.” Daniel is going to find out about that, and that could very well make that decision between good and evil and whom he can trust much easier for him.
Looking Ahead to a Possible Season 2
There is going to be a cliffhanger to end the season, though they also pointed out that they want people to be satisfied in case the show isn’t renewed (ABC would be crazy to not pick up Revenge season 2). The last two episodes are set to set up “new drama” and “new alliances.” It is sometimes hard to figure out who can be trusted on this show and who’s just out for their own self-interests, so it should be interesting to see which side these “new alliances” fall on and whom they involve. They do already have a plan for season 2, and that’s to stick to the same format: tease a big event, resolve it midway, and then deal with the aftermath. It’s worked for the first season, so why change what works?
What are you hoping to see resolved before Revenge season 1 ends
Four Things to Know About Revenge for it’s April Return
Revenge: Daniel’s in Danger and Four Other Things to Know About the Show’s April Return!
Tierney Bricker from eonline

The good news: Daniel (Joshua Bowman) wasn’t murdered on the beach! The bad news: He’s currently sittin’ (very) pretty in jail as suspect numero uno in Tyler’s (Ashton Holmes) death. You win some, you lose some!
So just how much danger is Revenge‘s Daniel currently in? And will Emily (Emily VanCamp) choose to save him or her childhood love Jack (Nick Wechsler)? And how far is Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) willing to go to get her son out of jail?
We just screened the first two acts of Revenge‘s return episode (set to air in April, boo!) and let’s just put it this way: no one is safe. Here are five things you can expect from the episode, plus a few teases from the cast and creator Mike Kelley that they so graciously dished out during their Paleyfest panel…
MORE: The Vampire Diaries: Five Things to Expect From Thursday’s Epic “1912″!
Daniel’s in Danger: The episode starts off with Daniel writing a letter to Emily, one very similar to another letter she received from an imprisoned man: her father David (James Tupper). Don’t worry, Emily gives Daniel some tips she learned from her juvie days. Too bad she didn’t teach him how to properly protect himself from his mother. You see, Daniel’s trial is not for another three months, so he’ll be stuck in Rikers for that period of time, unless he’s in a life-threatening situation. Victoria (being Victoria) goes to extreme lengths to get Daniel out of jail. Yeah, it’s not pretty and he will eventually find out that his mother orchestrated his beatdown.
Don’t worry, we won’t have to endure Daniel in jail for long. Episode 18 will jump ahead a few months and take us to the trial, which will then wrap up in episode 19. How’s that for breakneck pacing?!
The Hunt Is On: Jack isn’t the only one looking into Amanda’s (Margarita Leveiva) disappearance…in fact, almost everyone is looking for her. Victoria is desperate to pin Tyler’s murder on Amanda and is working with Daniel’s lawyer to find her. When they have no leads, Victoria sets her sights on another person to take the fall: Jack. Yikes! Yes, Emily will try to protect Jack and the audience will learn just how far she’s possibly willing to go for Montauk’s most popular bartender.
However, Connor Paolo might have let something slip while listing all of the things Declan will be dealing with in upcoming episodses when he included “Jack’s trial.”
Blood Is Thicker Than Water: Declan will find himself torn between protecting his brother, whom he knows was on the beach that night, and being there for his troubled girlfriend Charlotte (Christa B. Allen). While we don’t see a lot of Declan in the opening two acts, we hear he’s “essential” to the murder trial and Paolo tells us Declan will always choose family. “Charlotte isn’t family yet,” he teases.
Mason’s Back: Mason Treadwell (Roger Bart) comes back into the picture when Emily realizes they can use him to their advantage in Daniel’s trial by having him report on the trial and perpetuate that it was Amanda who killed Tyler. While he’s hesitant at first, considering he lost his house and beloved typewriter the last time he was in the Hamptons, he changes his tune when he realizes just how big Daniel’s trial will be.
In episode 20, we’ll flashback to 2003, where the show will reassemble all of the people Emily has taken down (or planning to take down) in one room and it’ll be an event that finally convinces her of her father’s innocence. Plus, we’ll get to see Jack with really long hair! In that episode, we’ll also flashback to the ’90s.
Love Triangle Scoop: The Daniel-Amanda-Jack love triangle will be heating up with Amanda’s exit and VanCamp teases that Emily will start leaning towards Jack in the upcoming episodes, though she still has feelings for Daniel and we’ll see how far she’s willing to go for him at the end up episode 17.
P.S.: Per usual, Nolan’s (Gabriel Mann) one-liners are awesome and he shares some juicy scenes with Amanda, Jack and Mason…all while wearing two polos.
Are you looking forward to Revenge‘s return? What are you hoping to see? Are you Team Jack or Team Daniel? Sound off in the comments!
The Dark Side of Jack Porter
by Matt Richenthal is the Editor in Chief of TV Fanatic.
The fake Amanda Clark was not the only person to see a different side to Jack Porter at the conclusion of last week’s Revenge.
The Jack Porter that fans of this ABC series have come to know would not put on a black suit and whisk away his girlfriend to Atlantic City. So might this be a sign of a new direction for the typically uptight bartender?
“Maybe,” Nick Wechsler teased to me over the phone. “Down the road, we may see Jack doing things we didn’t expect him to be doing. We’ll see a darker side and that was getting the ball rolling on it.”
Interesting. If a few words of wisdom from Declan – and some same-sex-kissing from Amanda – simply get the ball rolling, where might that ball head when Daniel proposes to Emily? How will Jack to this development?
Wechsler played coy, hinting that Jack will be “distracted” when he learns of the news, while also admitting his heart will “sink a little.”
But “he won’t be able to feel the weight of it in that moment,” the actor said, perhaps hinting that something goes down during his trip with Amanda.
Overall, Jack hasn’t really been in on a lot of the action. He isn’t scheming with Emily like Nolan, or plotting the demise of his soon-to-be ex, like Victoria. Does the actor himself grow restless? Is he jealous of those who are always up to something?
“I’m happy to wait for it,” he said. “But I play a lot of dodgeball – because I’m seven – and you do just wanna be in the game. It’s a bummer to watch from the sidelines.”
It sounds like he might not be doing that for much longer.
